Mike Kearns attended John F Ross
from 1959 to 1964, and along with three other classmates, Neil
Oliver, Donald Reid, and Richard Rowberry
had a folk-singing group called the Romers. Mike Kearns says that
because the "50" reunion is so big, they are all planning
to attend. They are scattered as far as Nelson B.C., Nashville
Tennessee, and the Ottawa area,
and none of them have been to a John Ross reunion before.
Mike sent us a press clipping from the Guelph Mercury on March
10, 1964, along with a picture from the same page, He says "to
give you a feel for the excitement that was the Romers".
Their first-ever song was a parody of Frankie and Johnnie called
"Caesar, Pompey, and Crassus" which they performed in
Latin class for teacher Don Maudsley and the kids, wearing togas
(they went on to do the folk songs of the era.). Mike says they
stand ready to do it again at the Reunion!
